Asset Tag Product
Serial Number Asset Tags
Serial number asset tags are produced as a numbered run so that every asset carries one identifier that appears nowhere else in your register. The numbering convention is the foundation of a working asset identification system, which is why it is agreed before production.

Key benefits
Why organisations choose serial number asset tags
One asset, one number
A sequential run guarantees uniqueness across the batch, so two assets cannot end up sharing an identifier.
Readable structure
A prefix can carry meaning — site, department or asset class — so a number tells a reader something before they open the register.
Simple to extend
Ranges can be continued in later batches so new equipment slots into the same convention instead of starting a parallel system.
Audit-friendly
Sequential ranges make gaps visible, which helps when reconciling a physical count against a register.
Applications
Typical applications
- First-time asset registration exercises
- Annual verification and reconciliation
- Departmental allocation of equipment
- Numbering furniture and fittings
- Numbering tools and portable equipment
Identification options
What the tag can carry
- Plain sequential numbers, for example 0001, 0002, 0003
- Prefixed numbers, for example ICT-0001 or NRB-ICT-0001
- Year-based formats where an organisation registers by acquisition year
- Fixed start and end range per batch
- Optional barcode or QR code encoding the same number

FAQs
Serial Number Asset Tags — questions
What numbering format should we use?
A workable format is short, fixed-length and never reused. Many organisations use a department or site prefix followed by four or five digits, and keep the digit count constant so numbers sort correctly in a spreadsheet.
Can numbering continue from an existing register?
Yes. A batch can start at whatever number follows your current highest identifier so the sequence stays continuous.
Should the number encode the asset type?
A short prefix for a broad category is usually helpful. Encoding detail such as make, model or user is not, because those change while the tag does not.
