How to Print 39x13mm Asset Tags in Kenya

The 39 × 13 mm format is one of the most widely used asset label sizes in Kenyan offices, schools and hospitals. It fits laptops, monitors, printers and furniture rails, yet leaves room for a company name, a scannable code and a human-readable asset number.

Barcode scanning distances

On a 39 mm wide tag, a Code128 barcode carrying 8–12 characters scans reliably with a standard handheld laser or CCD scanner at roughly 5–20 cm. Keep asset numbers short, avoid special characters, and leave quiet space at both ends of the bars. QR codes on a 13 mm tag scan comfortably with a smartphone at 5–15 cm and keep working even when part of the code is scratched.

Anodized aluminium vs vinyl tags

Paper and vinyl labels are fine for short-term or indoor use, but they fade in sunlight, peel on hot equipment and are easy to remove. Anodized aluminium tags seal the print beneath a hard oxide layer, resisting abrasion, solvents, heat and UV — the reason audit-grade registers specify metal for vehicles, machinery and high-value IT equipment.

Asset audit standards in Nairobi

Public entities and many corporates and NGOs in Nairobi reconcile their fixed asset registers annually against physical verification, in line with IPSAS/IFRS asset accounting and PFM regulations. A unique, permanent tag on every item — matching the register number exactly — is what makes that verification fast and defensible to auditors.
